As a Mozambican artist Samson Chambala's works explores the complex intersections of migration, identity, displacement, and belonging through the mediums of Visual Art, Sustainable Fashion Design, Oral histories and Installations. In his late teens, Samson began to take an interest in fashion having observed his mother's work as a fashion designer and his uncle's dressmaking. These two were Samson's first mentors and teachers in textiles as the artist began making his own garments at the age of 17.
Through an internship with a fashion brand Drybone, the artist got the opportunity to develop his sketching expertise and expand his creative explorations through the designing and making of inhouse garments. Through these processes coupled with painting on clothing, he began to venture into fine art. His artistic practice now draws its material and aesthetic sensibilities from the world of fashion while his garments adopt visual painterly impulses. He takes the discarded material of the textiles production process and uses it in his visual work as well as creating his own tapestry art. Being a self taught artist that has been mentored by the likes of Ayanda Mabula and watching the growth Blessing Ngobeni Samson still stands firm in his authenticity. In 2019 he had the privilege of being a part of an art project called 1000 drawings with the aim to uplift the art movement
